Masonry and Retaining Walls

Block and stone work with a footing under it and drainage behind it. Retaining walls that hold, stem walls for additions, and repairs for the walls that were built without either.

Walls that hold because of what you cannot see

A retaining wall fails from behind, when water builds up with nowhere to go. A block wall fails from below, when there is no footing. We build the parts you do not see.

Clermont has hills, Windermere has lakefront grade, and plenty of Orlando lots have a slope somewhere that needs holding back. A retaining wall is the fix, and most of the retaining walls we are asked to repair failed for the same reason: no drainage behind them. Water saturates the backfill, the weight doubles, and the wall leans.

We build block and stone walls on a real footing, with gravel backfill and a drain behind the wall so water has somewhere to go. CMU block work for stem walls, garden walls and structural walls, stone veneer where the look matters, and repair for cracks, settlement and leaks in masonry that someone else built.

Why people choose us

Why Orlando homeowners call C2

Four things you can hold us to, on this job and every one after it.

Drainage behind every wall

Gravel backfill and a perforated drain pipe. It is the difference between a retaining wall and a retaining wall that leans in three years.

A footing under every wall

Block laid on sand settles. We dig and pour a footing below grade first, sized to the wall.

Licensed for structural masonry

Stem walls and structural block are general contractor work. We hold the license, we pull the permits, we schedule the inspections.

We fix the ones that failed

A leaning or cracked wall can usually be rebuilt on the same line with the drainage it should have had. Cheaper than you expect, and it stays fixed.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Common questions from Orlando homeowners.

How much does a retaining wall cost in Orlando?

It depends almost entirely on height and length. A short garden wall is a modest job; a wall holding several feet of grade with a footing, reinforcement and drainage is priced by the linear foot and can run into the thousands. Walls over a certain height need an engineer. We quote the actual wall after a free on-site look.

Why is my retaining wall leaning?

Water, almost every time. Without gravel backfill and a drain behind it, the soil behind the wall saturates every storm and pushes. The fix is to take it down, re-footing if needed, and rebuild it with the drainage it was missing. Pushing it back and hoping does not work.

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?

Above a certain height, usually around three to four feet depending on the city, yes, and it will need an engineer’s drawing. Below that, often not, though HOAs may want to approve the look. We check for your address and handle it.

Can you repair cracks in a block wall?

Yes. Hairline cracks in the mortar or stucco are usually cosmetic and get repointed or patched. Stepped cracks through the block mean the footing has moved, and that section gets re-footed and rebuilt. We tell you which you have before we quote.

Do you do stem walls and block for additions?

Yes. Footings, stem walls and structural block for room additions and new structures are part of our general contracting work, built to the engineered plans with the inspections scheduled.
